Sir Patrick Bateson:
Alas one of my heroes has passed. (Brian J. McCabe, Sir Patrick Bateson (1938-2017) Science vol. 358 no. 6360 October 13, 2017 page 174) Reading his glowing obituary, I was kicking myself for not having written him. I think he would have, almost uniquely, responded. I often refer to his work on mate choice and would have pointed out that it dovetailed with the Helgason study on kinship and fertility in the Iceland study. But it turns out he was all over it. He knew everything I would have had to offer except the experimental work I am now seeking a publisher for. Productive in many fields, he had charm, humor and brilliance. I shall miss him although I never knew him.
There have been blank visitors over the past month but I’m having no luck with my statistics package.
